That is what the Founding Fathers meant it to say. That is what generations of Americans, U.S. Presidents, the U.S. Congress and the Supreme Court understood it to say - until recently, that is.

This part of the First Amendment is known as The Establishment Clause.

The attacks on religion in public life have nothing to do with Constitutional Law. They are a dishonest twisting of the words of our Founding Fathers to serve the interests of the ACLU and other atheist activists who want to destroy the Christian heritage of the United States.
